July 15 through Aug. 15, over 12,000 students in need, including more than 300 from Chicagoland will have the opportunity to shop at Target stores nationwide for school supplies, clothing and other must-have, back-to-school items. Since 2009, the Target School Spree has helped  kids from across the country selected by The Salvation Army gear up for the academic year. Each child will receive an $81 Target GiftCard to purchase school supplies. Select Salvation Army locations will work with local Target stores to schedule the date of their Target School Spree. The Salvation Army Providing Safe and Engaging Environment during Chicago Public School Teacher Strike

Ten Salvation Army corps community centers are providing safe, educational programming as alternative locations for students to go during the Chicago Public Schools Teachers Union Strike.

The Salvation Army sites are among the 144 schools, agencies and nonprofits participating in CPS’ “Children First” plan to provide safe and engaging environments for families. The Salvation Army will provide students with positive enrichment activities, breakfast and lunch each weekday. The Salvation Army Chicago Temple Corps Prepares for Back to School with Target

The Chicago Temple Corps youth had a blast last Wednesday, August 29th as they took part in a back-to-school shopping venture. Twenty children from the Chicago Temple Corps, community and afterschool programs were provided the opportunity to shop for school items at Target. The youth were able to purchase clothing, shoes, and school supplies. There were a few youth who were not able to make the trip because they are on the Chicago Public Schools “Track E” school system, which started mid -August. However, the chaperones were armed with their lists. Those who shopped had a great time choosing outfits and items they felt would give them that “extra edge” as they prepared for the new school year. The Salvation Army Norridge Citadel Corps visits the H.I.P. for a Back to School Shopping Spree at Target

On August 25 2012, twenty-two children ranging in ages 5 to 13 years, from the Norridge service area, enjoyed a shopping spree at Target in the Harlem and Irving Plaza(the HIP) Mall.

Every child was accompanied by a “personal shopper”, which included soldiers of the Norridge Citadel, Advisory Council, community volunteers, and teachers from local schools.

The children and their parents were so grateful for this assistance and have sent thank you notes for the Target store manager.

Back to School Campus Invasion with The Salvation Army and B96

Radio station B96 and The Salvation Army is helping kids start off school in the right way with a back to school Campus Invasion.

At every Campus Invasion stop, B96 will collect school supplies for children who need them for the school year.
