Many families in Chicagoland don’t have a joyous Christmas dinner because they can’t afford it. In fact, some of them can’t afford many groceries at all. This holiday season you can give a family in need a happy Christmas by simply collecting a few cans of food at your workplace, school, church, or community center.
Every Christmas season, The Salvation Army Chicago prepares nearly 11,000 dinner boxes to help families enjoy a full holiday meal. We are looking for donations of non-perishable food items to help fill these boxes and bring families Christmas joy.
“Our community members and donors are always generous – especially during the holidays,” said Lt. Colonel Sharon Smith, director of women’s ministries for The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division. “Our food drive is a great opportunity for people to give because it takes so little effort but makes such a big impact to those families we serve during the holiday season.”
Here are the items needed (please only collect the items listed).
• cranberry sauce
• canned corn
• canned green beans
• canned yams
• cake mix
• biscuit mix
Items must be delivered to The Salvation Army between Monday, November 13 – Friday, November 17 in order for us to prepare and deliver baskets in time for Christmas.
