Everybody’s favorite psychiatrist, Vermont inn keeper and elf, Bob Newhart, will be the featured speaker at The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division’s annual civic luncheon on Friday, May 12 at the Hilton Chicago.
Newhart will share stories about his career – starting as an accountant in Chicago, through his stand-up career, and ending with his time in Hollywood. The base of his comedy is drawn from personal experiences or careful observation of everyday life.
Newhart is no stranger to The Salvation Army, supporting the organization since 2007. “Attaining success in any field requires giving back to society,” Newhart said. “And the fact that The Salvation Army is ranked as #6 among the 50 top charities in the U.S. speaks for itself.”
The annual civic luncheon celebrates a year of service delivered to the most vulnerable men, women and children throughout Chicago and the suburbs, and recognizes the generous donors whose dedicated support makes those services possible. Every year the Army recognizes some of its most dedicated supporters, and this year will recognize Harry and Mary Dolan and WBBM Radio’s Pat Cassidy.
The Salvation Army and the City of Chicago will also provide more information about their new venture – the Shield of Hope – the City’s first rapid-response emergency homeless assessment and response center. This new center will provide families facing homelessness personalized service and support, and is a key part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s “Plan 2.0: A Home for Everyone.”
You can still join sponsors such as Ariel Investments, Antunovich Associates, Bulley & Andrews, The Duchossois Family Foundation, Jewel-Osco, Protivity and Paul & Joan Rubschlager at this year’s event.
