As families across the country continue to struggle with unemployment and economic uncertainty, the need in Chicago continues to climb. In just one month The Salvation Army received 2,400 more first-time requests for emergency assistance than the previous year and we are currently $735,000 short of what is needed to meet that increasing annual need.
We wholeheartedly thank the very generous Chicagoland community for the gifts that have already been made this holiday season and are challenging you to give one more time — our goal is within reach and with only seven days left in the campaign, we need your help in carrying our community over the finish line.
Although the familiar red kettles disappeared from the streets on December 24th, it’s not too late to give. The Red Kettle Campaign will continue online through January 31, 2013.
Donate online or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-825-2769) by January 31, 2013 to help us feed, clothe, shelter and heal Chicago.
The gifts received during our holiday Red Kettle campaign make up 70% of our total funding — missing this goal will result in unmet needs all year long.
Feeding the needy continues to be one of the primary uses for Red Kettle donations. Meals served by the Mobile Feeding Unit for people who are homeless and hungry are up more than 3,400 per month. Reliance on our food pantries throughout the region are also at record highs.
Every donation, however small, helps us provide critical assistance to Chicago’s most needy individuals.
Again, thank you to all of the Chicagoland community for partnering with The Salvation Army to “Do the Most Good.” We wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year.
