Sabrina and Briana weren’t hopeful about Christmas. Their mom, Wanda, had recently lost her job, and the family’s savings had run out. So when it came to Christmas presents, they were preparing themselves for the worst.
Shortly before Christmas, the young girls accompanied their mother to The Salvation Army, where she was hoping to get help with a bus pass. When our staff learned about the family’s circumstances, we immediately signed them up for our Angel Tree Program.
To the girls’ delight, on Christmas morning they awoke to beautifully wrapped presents: Hello Kitty art supplies and Logic Building Blocks.
“Without this program, my children wouldn’t have had any toys under the Christmas tree,” said an emotional Wanda. “I was so happy they had a chance to open presents like every other child. We are all so grateful.”
Since then, this grateful family has also benefitted from food and clothing. And Wanda has attended job placement training courses. But they will never forget about the Angel Tree Program. “Throughout the whole process, The Salvation Army treated us like human beings,” Wanda said. “They were like family.”
