The Salvation Army’s 2012 season of giving will get off to a festive start November 15 when the Army hosts several hundred friends and supporters from various corporations at the Starlighter Luncheon at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Building. The Starlighter is the kick-off of the Chicago-area’s annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign.

This year’s event will highlight ways in which The Salvation Army transforms the lives of people in need and will honor and recognize Anne’s House, The Salvation Army’s long-term residential program serving young women and girls who are victims of human trafficking. Entertainment will feature musicians from The Salvation Army’s music programs.

The Salvation Army receives nearly 70 percent of its yearly donations during the Red Kettle Campaign, which begins November 15, 2012, and continues through January 31, 2013. The funds are used not only to support Christmas programs and services, but to help The Salvation Army serve those in need throughout the year.
