Disaster Relief

Disaster ReliefDisasters come in all forms — from headline-making tornadoes, floods, blizzards and major accidents to personal disasters such as home fires. But, you can be assured that The Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services and personnel will be on hand providing comfort, care and assistance to victims and responders.

The mission is two-fold: support first responders such as police and firefighters and provide on-site care for victims. Emergency Disaster personnel provide on-site meals and sustenance, aid and assistance. Rehabilitation Units bring relief and rehydration to first responders. And there is victim counseling and emergency shelter assistance. To assist with the aftermath, cleaning kits and supplies are made available to victims. Our Emergency Disaster units are part of an interagency disaster mobilization team to respond to catastrophic events.

Last year, Emergency Disaster units were on the scene at 331 calls, touching the lives of more than 25,000 disaster victims.

But numbers don't tell the whole story. The real story is in the lives touched and how people were helped through their traumatic events with aid, comfort and a loving hand.
