The Salvation Army of Chicago Junior Advisory Board held its first annual Back to School Bags tournament on Saturday, June 25 to support the purchase of school supplies for students by The Salvation Army’s La Villita Corps Community Center.
Twenty teams participated and 48 people attended. The board raised about $800. The top two teams teams won White Sox and Cubs tickets. Third place won a golf package, and fourth place won Nike sports bags. A silent auction included a variety of prizes such as a team-autographed Bulls banner, an autographed Blackhawks picture, a one-night stay at the Renaissance Suites Hotel, a bowling party in Wheaton and more.

Launched in 2009, The Salvation Army Chicago Junior Advisory Board is comprised of a group of young professionals dedicated to enhancing The Salvation Army’s services and spreading the word about the organization among their peers and networks. One of the first Salvation Army junior boards nationwide, its members participate in a variety of Salvation Army programs, including fundraising events, food drives and the Red Kettle campaign during the holiday season.
