125 Years of Serving People in Need In Greater Chicago

Did you know that in 1897, The Salvation Army opened Evangeline Shelter on Clark Street to provide low-cost lodging for working men.  

Today, combining all shelter programs, each night over 1,100 people are accommodated – free of charge – under a Chicagoland Salvation Army roof.

All this year, The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division will be hosting events marking 125 years of service to people in need.

“"My late husband who was retired from the the Chicago Fire Department always told me when he came home after terrible fires 'that come winter or summer, The Salvation Army was always there for him and the other firemen and policemen with hot coffee and dry gloves'.
